| CANDO: Council
for the Advancement of Native Development Officers
CANDO is a Canada-wide organization that facilitates the education
and training of Aboriginal Economic Development Officers (EDO's).
It was founded in 1990 in response to the lack of a nationally focused
effort to provide standardized recognition of Aboriginal EDOs' professional
abilities. A board of directors elected from a slate of volunteer
EDO’s from across Canada oversees this association.
CANDO offers a program in which prior learning assessments or post-secondary
education courses lead to EDO Certification for personnel involved
in economic development of Aboriginal communities.
An annual Aboriginal Economic Development Convention has been hosted
six times by CANDO and this year’s was held September 27-30,
2000 at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife. The host organization
was the Denendeh Development Corporation.

of tourism products for which there is market demand, which can
be sustainable and profitable, and which are culturally acceptable.
