The Chiefs of Ontario is looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Finance Assistant.

 

Summary Description:

The Finance Assistant is responsible for providing direct assistance to the Finance Comptroller in the overall administration and delivery of financial services to the Chiefs of Ontario organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for and assisting with the preparation of all aspects of accounts payables and receivables including but not limited to: requisition, verification, authorization, payment and disbursement; handles correspondence and inquiries relating to accounts payable/receivables. 

Assist in the preparation reports and financial statements as required through the use of ACCPAC and all sub-ledgers of the computerized accounting system to Executive Director, Finance Committee, Coordinators and funding agencies. 

Assist in the preparation and of completion of annual audit process and follow up as required to maintain the integrity of the organization and perform other duties as required by the Finance Comptroller or Executive Director.

Knowledge:

Principles, practices and methods of modern accounting and auditing: principles and practices of financial administration including budgeting and reporting/monitoring; modern office practices, procedures, methods and equipment; modern principles and practices in operations procedures and data processing; application of data process in the maintenance of accounting records and financial administration; budget preparation, program analysis, and revenue forecasting; principles and practices of organization, administration , budget and management; reports accounting practices required by federal and provincial regulations and agreements.

Exceptional knowledge and experience in the use of computerized accounting systems (ACCPAC Windows), spreadsheet software (Excel) and word processing.

Skills:

Ability to assist in the planning, coordinating and directing a complex financial operation; developing, revising and installing accounting systems and procedures; interpreting and applying appropriate laws, regulations and reporting requirements; preparing verified financial statements, reports and analysis; communicating clearly and concisely both written and oral; high degree of organizational ability; excellent keyboarding skills; high degree of interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks and demands; ability to develop and maintain good working relationships within the organization and external agencies or affiliates; able to work unsupervised and within applied time constraints.

 

Education & Experience:

The ideal candidate should possess a diploma or certificate in accounting, business administration or relevant field.  Post secondary education in a related field is considered an asset given requirements of the position.

Minimum three (3) years experience working in a finance department is required. Experience working with First Nations or organizations is considered an asset.

Consideration will be given if the above ideal requirements are not met but applicants must clearly possess a combination of education and experience to fulfill the requirements of the position.
Salary:
Negotiated based on experience & education
