Climate change information packages were prepared by the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) for First Nation communities. The kit is referred to as the “Climate Change and Energy Resources for Aboriginal and Northern Communities” and can be sent to your community by contacting Michelle Glena at Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) at 807-623-9595.
The kit is divided into three boxes, each of which holds information for a specific audience:
- General Box – information in this box is non-technical and is meant for the general public who want to learn more about climate change and energy.
- School Box – information in this box and poster tube is non-technical and is meant for school teachers and students alike who want to learn more about climate change and energy. Teachers can find information for the classroom and students will find games for education resources.
- Technical Box – information in this box is technical in nature, meaning you will find everything from detailed “how-to” instructions to scientific reports. This information is meant for homeowners or buyers, housing directors, building managers and others who work on community development and infrastructure.
Within each of the above boxes material is organized into two topics:
- Climate change refers to all subject matter related to changes in the earth’s climate, as well as the impacts of such change on all aspects of society and natural ecosystems
- Energy refers to all subject matter relating to energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
Please distribute this information to your schools, housing director, lands managers, environment departments and any others you feel might be interested in climate change and energy. |
