Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Health Summit

The Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Health Summit has been confirmed for November 19-21, 2019. The 3-day Summit will take place at the Delta Hotels by Marriott, 2240 Sleeping Giant Pkwy, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The Summit will bring together delegates to focus on further engagement, planning and development for NAN Health Transformation and the proposed NAN Health Commission.
The theme of this year’s NAN Health Summit is Developing a Wholistic Health Framework for NAN Territory. Participants can expect to attend keynotes, plenaries and breakout sessions focused on the following:
- Build upon the January 2019 Keynote Speaker – Berma Bushie – the Four Circles of Hollow Water, Sexual Abuse Strategy
- Provide an update on NAN Health Transformation process and milestones, with a specific focus on governance and community participation around the NAN Health Commission.
- Present research and input gathered from community participation, Chiefs and Council, and Health Transformation partners etc.
- Receive direction from the NAN communities and leadership on the development of the wholistic health framework for the NAN Health Commission
NAN will cover costs for two community representatives from each NAN First Nation (Community Health Director, Community Health Worker or designate), one Tribal Council Health Director or designate, and one representative from each Health Authority. Travel days are Monday, November 18, 2019 and Friday, November 22, 2019. Air travel will be booked by NAN staff or for the use of a personal vehicle; mileage will be covered and based on the NAN rate. As required by NAN Chiefs Finance Committee, the most economical arrangements will be made to keep the overall costs to a minimum. Accommodations for delegates will be booked by NAN Staff.
