The Chiefs of Ontario maintains its position opposing the Nault
Governance Initiative in accordance with Resolutions 02/01 and 01/40.
- In conformity with the Halifax Resolution, a national AFN technical
committee was established in August to develop a Rights Based
Work Plan. A representative of the BC Vice Chief participated.
The committee produced a strong and positive Work Plan that was
endorsed by the AFN Executive and submitted to INAC on September
7.
- The AFN Work Plan was rejected by the Minister on September
20, albeit in diplomatic terms. According to the Halifax Resolution,
two things should then have occurred, i.e. (1) a Special Assembly,
and (2) resistance to the Nault Initiative. Instead, the BC Vice
Chief and INAC produced a new Workplan essentially endorsing the
Nault Initiative.
- The BC Region has dismissed the AFN Work Plan of September
7 as a creation of technicians who were out of touch with the
AFN Executive. As outlined above, that critique is unjustified.
- The AFN Work Plan of September 7 was Rights Based and was consistent
with the Halifax Resolution. That is why it was rejected by INAC.
The Penultimate Work Plan endorses the Nault Initiative, under
the cover of some meaningless work on other issues. That is why
it is so desperately supported by Minister Nault.
