(TORONTO, September 8, 2017) This morning the Province of Ontario announced a new Cannabis Control Board which will regulate the sales of marijuana through as many as 150 stand-alone stores located in municipalities across the province, beginning July 1, 2019. Ontario First Nations will be discussing their involvement in this process, including our own laws to regulate cannabis consumption and sales in First Nation communities. There is also potential in sharing provincial sales revenues.

(TORONTO August 29, 2017) “As we mark World Water Week, Canadians must be reminded that far too many First Nation communities in Ontario, and across the country, do not have access to clean drinking water ,” said Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day.  “While the federal Liberal government pledged to end all Boil Water Advisories (BWAs) within five years, not enough progress has been made to date.”  
 

(Toronto – August 28, 2017) Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a significant Cabinet shuffle that will see Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) split into two departments. Former Health Minister Jane Philpott becomes Minister of Indigenous Services while former INAC Minister Carolyn Bennett becomes Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs.
