WORLD COMMUNITY URGES COMPREHENSIVE RESPONSE TO HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS FACING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN CANADA

(Geneva) Many of Canada’s closest diplomatic allies and trading partners are urging the federal government to do more to address the serious human rights issues facing First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Toronto, ON (February 25, 2013) The Government of Canada appears today before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal to respond to allegations that it is discriminating against First Nations children and families by under-funding child and family services on reserve.

Toronto, ON (January 31, 2013) Yesterday the Ontario Superior Court published a decision which made clear the federal government`s obligation to turn over its archival records on Indian Residential Schools to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada.
