Greetings to all our Relatives,
We come to you seeking your assistance in hosting the First On Reserve, Relay for Life Event. This is a Fund Raining Activity that not only raises money, it raises awareness, it is a night of fun and fellowship, it honors the survivors of Cancer, and it pay tribute to the many members we have lost as a result of Cancer. I had a vision of one team coming from every first Nation in Ontario, and bringing with them their Cancer Survivors. I know that this is not likely to happen, but someday it might...if not here at Cape Croker, than somewhere in Ontario.
I know that it would be very costly for our relatives in the far north to come, but it would be great to have your support through the purchasing of luminaries or pledges for teams who have entered. The luminaries are simply fire retardant paper bags with a block of wood on the bottom for weight, and a candle that is lit at dust, and which light the track for those who will be walking at times during the relay. This would be a wonderful way to show support for us, but to also support those who have survived from your community.
If you enter a team, each team member would register and pay $10.00 to show their commitment, and they would then ask others to pledge them with the hope of securing another $100.00. A team comes up with a name, and a Captain, who provides information as it is needed. On the day of the event, which for us is, June 22nd 2007, you would arrive, set up your tents and prepare for the nights activities. We would have food and refreshments, lots of entertainment, lots of opportunity to meet and make new friends, and we would create a wonderful memory to call forth when we wished.
So please, access the information on line at, www.cancer.ca or www.cancer.ca/relay. Meegwetch for your kindness and support.
