CHIEFS OF ONTARIO CONGRATULATE RECIPIENTS OF THE 2012 ABORIGINAL PEOPLES CHOICE MUSIC AWARDS

November 5, 2012

Toronto, ON — The Chiefs of Ontario wish to extend their congratulations to all the recipients of the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA) which and to extend special congratulations to First Nation citizens in Ontario: Shy-Anne Havorka of Matachewan First Nation and Derek Miller of Six Nations of the Grand River.

Shy-Anne garnered an unprecedented 6 awards for Best Country CD, Single of the Year, Aboriginal Female Entertainer of the Year, Best Album Cover Design, Best Music Video and Best Producer/Engineer–making her the highest female winner in the six year history of the APCMAs. Derek Miller took home the award for Best Blues CD. 

Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy stated, “We join all who voted for Derek and Shy-Anne in recognizing these talented Indigenous multi-instrumentalists and singer/song writers in the country and blues genres.”
