Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald Congratulates Nishnawbe Ask Nation Re-Elected Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler and the Newly-Elected Executive Council

(Toronto, August 15, 2018) On behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario, Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald would like to congratulate re-elected Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler and the newly-elected Executive Council on their election that took place earlier today at the NAN XXXVII Keewaywin Conference in the traditional territory of Chapleau Cree First Nation.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler on his re-election today,” said Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald. “Over the last 3 years, Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler has made significant progress for the Nishnawbe Aski Nation communities. He has done exceptional work advocating for greater health services and policing services, demonstrating true dedication to improving the quality of life for those within Nishnawbe Aski Nation territory and neighbouring communities. I look forward to continuing to work with Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler over the coming years.”

“I’d also like to extend my warm greetings and congratulations to the re-elected Deputy Grand Chief’s Jason Smallboy, Derek Fox and new elected Deputy Grand Chief Walter Naveau,” said Regional Chief Archibald.

Delegates from NAN’s 49 First Nation communities have participated in the vote today. Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler was re-elected with 28 ballots over Rosemary McKay with 16 votes. Grand Chief Fiddler has served his community for over 25 years, continuing his second term as Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
