First Nations youth are the largest and fastest growing population within the province of Ontario. With over 50% of the First Nations population between 15 – 29 years old, it is critical to strengthen and support efforts for youth development and empowerment at all levels. In First Nations communities, our national identities are solidifying even in the face of economic challenges.

The Ontario First Nations Young Peoples Council (OFNYPC) is the official youth voice for First Nations in Ontario. Established in 2004 by the Chiefs in Assembly, we are mandated to be a unified voice for First Nations youth on all matters related to youth affairs.

Reconnecting with Mother Earth – Elders and Youth Gathering 2017

In November 2017, First Nations Elders and youth from across Ontario gathered in Thunder Bay to discuss climate change and its impacts on First Nation communities, cultures, and Mother Earth. The gathering focused on understanding climate change from Elder and youth perspectives in communities and regions across Ontario and resulted in meaningful discussion and teachings being shared between the Elders and youth.
